5 Favorite Books On How To Help Your Children Manage Their Emotions

On the Depth Podcast, I did a two-part episode about favorite children’s books!

In the first episode, I shared 5 books that I read with my kids that helped them grow deeper in their faith (Depth Podcast Episode 244). In Part 2, I share 5 books that I did not have when my kids were young; they had not been written yet. They are all about emotional literacy, and they are phenomenal. (Depth Podcast Episode 245). I cannot wait to share in depth about them below, and I hope you will add them to your library at home.

Praying these books create great conversations in your home and help your kids grow stronger in their relationships as they learn to name their feelings and manage their emotions!

1. Any Day Emotions by Debra Fileta

What I love about this book is that the author names both positive and negative emotions that we will experience in our everyday lives. The words on each page as well as the graphics help your child learn more about that emotion thus expanding their emotional literacy! I highly recommend this book!

2. *What Am I Feeling by Dr. Josh & Christi Straub

I recommend this book for younger kids like Preschool or Kindergarten age. In the book, the authors remind us that “a feeling is just a feeling. It’s not in charge of you.” Then it goes on to talk about naming the feeling and asking God to help you with it. Again, a great resource for your kids!

3. *God, I Feel Sad by Michelle Nietert & Tama Fortner

I love that we can take our hard emotions to God. In this children’s series, the authors are helping our kids see how important it is to share with God how we are feeling. You definitely want this book in your library at home to help your child especially on those sad days.

Note: In the Series, they also have *God, I Feel Scared and hopefully more to come in the future years!

4. *Managing Your Emojis by Michelle Nietert & Lynn Cowell

I love that we have a book for older kids to help manage their emotions. I highly recommend this book for early teens and teenagers. To hear more about this amazing book, check out my interview with Michelle back in 2023. Link to Depth Podcast Episode 180

5. *The Rabbit Listened by Cori Doerrfeld

Empathy is a beautiful gift we can give our kids, and I love how this book shows the importance of listening and giving the gift of presence. All the other animals try to fix the situation, but the rabbit just listens. I highly recommend this beautiful book!
