What Are You Standing On?
Have you ever stepped on something that was unstable and almost lost your balance? Has your foot ever slipped because the rock below was wobbly and shakable? Recently I was backpacking with my son, I carefully took each step to make sure the ground below me was secure and unshakable.
My chance for success depended on what I was standing on.
Have you ever thought about life in this same way? Does what we stand on affect our success?
Friends, I believe it does. Recently I read Max Lucado’s newest book: *Unshakable Hope: Building your Lives on the Promises of God. This is Max’s 40th book written and he has done it again. Another insightful, truth filled book to shed some amazing perspective on this topic.
In his book, Max asks us to ponder the question, “the circumstances of life or the promises of God, upon which are you standing?”
Such a good question! As I honestly reflected on this question, I realized that many times, I feel weighed down by the problems of life and I let my circumstances rob my joy. Instead of standing on the promises of God and switching my focus, I will concentrate on my difficult circumstances. Can you relate? If so, then I highly recommend this book.
“Nothing lifts the weary soul like the promises of God. Because His Word is unbreakable, our hope is unshakable.”
This quote from Max’s book reminds us God’s Word is Truth and His Promises are never changing and cannot be broken. Max shares twelve of his favorite promises in his book but the Bible has over 3000 promises of God. I recommend you find a promise for the problem you are facing right now. Pick a Bible verse that you can cling to when you are feeling frustrated or defeated.
Let me share with you two of my favorite promises in the Bible:
Isaiah 40:31 “But those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.”
I love this promise! When you are feeling weak and weary, God will renew your strength as you put your hope and trust in Him. This verse is painted on a large sign in my house to remind me daily of this truth.
Philippians 1:6, “Being confident of this, that he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus.”
This verse has been a favorite since college. We are all works in progress and God is continually growing us and refining us into the woman of God He wants us to be.
I want to encourage you to find a verse that speaks to you and helps you with your problem! If you need some help, let me know. I would love to help you find a verse.
Remember when the storms of life come, you want to be standing on God’s promises that are unshakable.
God’s truth will anchor you so you don’t drift away. His promises will offer you hope when life takes an unexpected turn. God’s Word is full of promises waiting for you to stand upon.
Let me ask you again this question from Max’s book: “The circumstances of life or the promises of God, upon which are you standing?”
My prayer is that you will cling to God’s promises; they are secure and will hold you!
Love, Jodi

223. Walking in Peace in a Turbulent World — Natalie Atwell
Do you feel like you are walking in peace in the middle of this turbulent world? I know at Christmas time, we talk about Jesus…
Good morning, Jodi.
What a blessing of encouragement you are. 3000 promises in the Bible is staggering yet leaves us no choice but to have hope! We sing this song at church called Yes and Amen. The line, “All His promises are yes and Amen” is one I sing often to myself. Have a wonder-full Tuesday.
Thanks Julie! Totally agree- 3000 promises definitely gives us hope! Sounds like a great song- I will check it out!
