Taking A Leap Of Faith And Starting A Podcast
Have you ever felt God asking you to do something that was out of your comfort zone?
Maybe you thought you knew God’s plan for your life and then all of sudden He is asking you to follow Him down a different path?
Perhaps this new plan is full of unknowns and uncertainty.
It could be that He has placed something on your heart that is bold and audacious, and you cannot accomplish it without His help.
This is how I felt four years ago when God asked me to start the Depth Podcast.
I remember it clear as yesterday. I was planning to go back to She Speaks, a writing conference, in 2019 to pitch my book again. Somehow, I had missed the email to sign up. Feeling disappointed, I asked God, “If this is not your plan, what is your plan?”
I heard Him say in my heart, Depth is a Podcast.
What? A podcast? I don’t know how to start a podcast. God, are you sure you’re taking to the right person?
If you know me, you know I am not a techy person. I usually ask my teenage sons to help me with Instagram or my computer. I don’t have the first clue how to edit a podcast.
But I knew in my heart, God had clearly said those words to me.
I had come to a crossroads! God was asking me to follow Him down a path that I had not planned.
A path out of my comfort zone. A path of uncertainty. Maybe you can relate.
If you are at a similar crossroads, let me ask you, what is holding you back? Is it doubt? Insecurity? Fear? Do you feel “not enough?”
I think it is important to take our “not enough” statements and combat them with Scripture.
I am not strong enough. “He gives strength to the weary and increases the power of the weak.” Isaiah 40:29
I am not smart enough. “If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you.” James 1:5
I am not techy enough. “I can do all things through Christ who gives me strength.” Phil 4:13
Note: In my free resources, I have 10 truths (verses in the Bible) to combat our “Not Enough” Statements, just join my email list and I will send it to you.
I wish I could say that I said yes immediately. But the truth is it took a little over a month.
I will never forget a friend sharing with me, “Jodi, you light up the most when you talk about books. I think you already know your answer about the podcast.” That same weekend, another friend brought me back a shirt from Mexico with the words, Deeper on it with a giant tree with deep roots. This shirt was confirmation that I needed to say yes!
So the next day, I put the tree t-shirt on, walked across the street to my park, and asked my son to take my picture. Then I came home and posted it on all my social media accounts as well as my website with this exciting announcement:
Depth Podcast Coming Soon!
Did I have all the answers? No
Did I know what I was doing? No
Did I trust God would get me there? YES
Friend, that is why it is called a LEAP OF FAITH!
If everything was laid out perfectly for us to see, then it would not require faith!
Faith is the key ingredient. In the Bible it says, “Without faith, it is impossible to please God.” Hebrews 11:6
Where is God asking you to take a leap of faith?
Perhaps He wants you to lead a Bible Study or start a prayer group in your neighborhood or school. Maybe He wants you to serve together as a family and give of your time or finances. It could be that He wants you to show forgiveness to someone who has hurt you.
I want to encourage you to go for it!
I am so glad that I did not say no four years ago! Instead, I said Yes to God!
Today I am celebrating the 4th birthday of my Depth Podcast!
This is a picture from my first time recording! I am so thankful to God for opening doors that I never thought He would open. The podcast has been one of the favorite parts of my ministry!
I always wonder what would have happened if I had said no. I would have missed out on so many blessings.
If God is asking you to be obedient, then jump all in! Fully Surrender to His plans for your life! Remember, God will equip you with all that you need!
Your job is taking the Leap of Faith.
Praying for you! Love, Jodi
