Ruth: The Mother Who Steps into the Unfamiliar with Bold Faith

Heartbroken and alone, Ruth had an important decision to make.

Grief stricken over the loss of her husband, she found herself at a fork in the road. Would she stay loyal to her mother-in-law, Naomi and travel back to Bethlehem, a place completely new to her? Or would she flee to the familiar in Moab like Orpah, her sister-in-law?

Maybe you find yourself at a similar crossroad?

Perhaps God is asking you to take a leap of faith into the unknown? Or maybe he is asking you to make a brave choice and step out of your comfort zone?

Ruth took the risky road and audaciously declared as she followed Naomi, “Where you go I will go, and where you stay I will stay. Your people will be my people and your God my God.” (Ruth 1:16)

I love Ruth’s commitment to family even in the middle of her own grief. I can only imagine traveling back with her mother-in-law was not easy, especially when Naomi asked to be called “Mara because the Almighty had made my life very bitter.” (Ruth 1:20) I wonder how many times she questioned her choice. But as she depended on God, He turned her heartbreak into strength in Him.

Once in Bethlehem, Ruth stepped out in faith again as she visited a nearby field to collect grain for her and Naomi.

With God’s providential hand leading her, this Moabite widow bravely walked onto Boaz’s property.
